At a glance
- Session length: one to two hours (Cleveland Clinic)
- Research schedules: published protocols explore both individual sessions and longer series
- The experience: three gradual phases — compression, treatment and decompression
Hyperbaric is the longest single appointment on our menu because each visit includes time to move gradually through the chamber's pressure phases.
How long a session takes
Cleveland Clinic describes outpatient hyperbaric oxygen therapy as lasting one to two hours per session. Published medical schedules range from once a week to five days a week, and some clinical courses run to 30 or more total sessions. A series-based approach is common throughout the published protocols.
Why the session is structured that way
Every session has three phases. First, compression: the chamber pressure rises gradually (this is when your ears pop, like descending in a plane). Then the treatment period at pressure, where you simply breathe — the elevated pressure dissolves more oxygen into your blood plasma. Finally, decompression brings you back gradually. The ramp-up and ramp-down are why even a “60-minute treatment” occupies a longer appointment.
What to expect at the spa
